Paul Keres

(7 January 1916 - 5 June 1975) Keres was a player of formidable strength. His list of 1st prizes in international tournaments spreads over forty years and will long remain one of the finest.

Aron Nimzowitsch

(7 November 1886 - 16 March 1935) Nimzowitsch was an outstanding player who has left an impressive mark not only with his successful play but also with his profound writings. He was the founder of the so-called hypermodern school, which held that control of the centre did not necessarily imply occupation by pawns.

Akiba Rubinstein

(12 October 1882 - 14 March 1961) Rubinstein remains perhaps the most notable uncrowned king of chess. His tournament play was unsurpassed in 1912 and he became the leading challenger for the World title.
